The Community Service Committee provides opportunities for members of the New Lawyers Section and the Maine State Bar Association to give back to their communities. Whether it is building homes through Habitat for Humanity, getting our hands dirty rebuilding trails or landscaping with local land trusts, or serving up a helping at the Preble Street Resource Center, the New Lawyers Section provides the opportunity for Maine Lawyers, new and not-so-new, to give back.

We urge our members to get involved in their communities by volunteering, while recognizing that attorneys are busy people, often juggling long hours at work with young families and a range of professional and personal obligations. That’s why we offer regular, “morning-of-service” or “afternoon-of-service” events that allow our members and their families to contribute their efforts to important Maine organizations in manageable chunks of time.

The New Lawyers Section partners with Maine Supreme Court Associate Justice Andrew Mead, the Maine Justice Action Group and the Maine State Library System to organize an annual "Lawyers in Libraries" event to take place each year in May on "Law Day."  Please contact us for more information.

Check out the Upcoming Events page for more information about our upcoming service events this year!
